I think it would be useful to go through a sample session here. This is my experience of using MidpSSH on a BlackBerry Pearl 8120 to read and delete my email. N.B. I am a beginner with this software and hope that someone more knowledgeable can improve this page.
First log into the remote machine - if you haven’t got this to work yet then see connecting.
You can scroll through your command history with the trackball. When you find the command you want, press the Menu key and select Enter. If the command is not in your command history, then select Input and compose it, then press Menu and select Input again. In this example session I selected the “mutt” command to access my email.
If you wish to select a particular message to read first, then scroll to it with the trackball. Otherwise, read through your email by repeated pressing of the space bar. To do this in MidpSSH, first switch to Type mode (Menu → Type) then repeatedly press Alt and the 0/Space key.
Deleting the email is a rather fiddly process, because you want to send a lowercase d to the remote machine, but the 4/d/f key sends a 4 when pressed on its own and an uppercase D when pressed with Alt. The only way I have found to do this is to use Input mode, ensure that the text box contains a lowercase d, then select Type to send it, and repeat this for each message.
Once you are done, you can quit mutt by pressing the !/q/w key (you may need to enter Type mode again). Then enter an “exit” command, pop up another menu and select Close.
